Honor (Cześć) gained by:

  • Bravery in battle
  • Keeping oaths
  • Hospitality to guests
  • Protecting family
  • Avenging insults

Shame (Hańba) brought by:

  • Cowardice
  • Breaking oaths
  • Refusing hospitality
  • Failure to avenge family
  • Incest or sexual deviance

The Consequences:

Honorable man:

  • Trusted in trade
  • Sought for alliances
  • Welcomed everywhere

Shamed man:

  • Exiled from clan
  • No one trades with him
  • Killed without legal consequence
