The Integration

Following the naming, the child was fully integrated into family and community structures. It became legal person whose death would be crime, whose injury would require compensation, whose presence created obligations and rights. The parents could no longer expose the child without committing murder. The community could not ignore the child without violating social bonds.

The child entered the bloodline’s accounting—enrolled in the family’s genealogical memory, added to the list of descendants that connected present generation to ancestral past. The naming made the child link in the chain, someone through whom the bloodline would continue (potentially), whose existence mattered for the family’s perpetuation.

The name established the child’s wyrd—not completely (much of fate depended on later actions and circumstances) but substantially. A child named for warrior ancestor carried different fate-pattern than one named for wise counselor. The name created expectations that shaped how the child was raised, what skills were emphasized, what path seemed natural for them to follow.
