Best practice: Follow BOTH
Law protects:
- You (from prosecution)
- Landowners (their rights)
- Protected species
Ethics protect:
- Ecosystems (sustainability)
- Future access (don’t ruin it for others)
- Community (respect builds acceptance)
UK bushcraft exists in legal grey area:
- More restrictive than Scotland/Scandinavia
- More permissive than many urban areas
- Requires knowledge, discretion, respect
Your responsibility:
- Learn laws (this appendix = starting point, not complete)
- Follow ethics (even when no one watching)
- Teach others (responsible practice spreads)
Bushcraft’s future in UK depends on:
- Practitioners respecting land, law, landowners
- Building relationships with access providers
- Demonstrating responsible use
