The Triple Triangle
The valknut’s form—three triangles interlocked—is geometrically sophisticated. The triangles can be constructed in two ways: as three separate triangles linked together (unicursal valknut, traceable in single continuous line), or as three discrete triangles interwoven (tricursal valknut, requiring three separate lines). Both forms exist in archaeological record.
The number three appears repeatedly in Norse cosmology—three roots of Yggdrasil, three Norns weaving fate, three levels of cosmos. The triple triangle might reference these triads, encoding cosmological understanding in geometric form.
The triangles are not merely adjacent but interlocked—passing through each other, unified despite separateness. This might represent different realms linked together, separate worlds connected, distinct concepts unified into larger whole. The form suggests impossibility—triangles cannot physically interlock this way in three-dimensional space. This geometric impossibility might intentionally represent transcendent reality, the symbol indicating forces and relationships beyond ordinary physical laws.
