Coastal foragers understood they were receiving gifts—the ocean provided, but it was not obligated to do so. Offerings were made—coins thrown into waves, first catches returned to the sea, prayers spoken in gratitude.

This was not superstition but recognition of relationship—the forager took from the ocean, and reciprocity required acknowledgment, respect, care not to overharvest or damage the source of abundance.

The tide reveals.
The forager harvests.
The ocean provides.
And the liminal zone feeds those who know its rhythms.
