[expand]*Situational awareness:*

Constant attention to surroundings prevents most wildlife encounters. Look ahead on trail. Listen for warning signs. Remain alert.

*Respect distance:*

All wildlife deserves space. If animal changes behaviour due to your presence, you are too close.

*No feeding:*

Habituated wildlife becomes dangerous wildlife. Never feed wild animals or leave food accessible.

*Camp hygiene:*

Proper food storage prevents attracting animals to camp. Hang food where required, use bear canisters where appropriate, clean camp of food residues.

*First aid preparedness:*

Carry appropriate first aid supplies for potential wildlife encounters: compression bandage (snake bite), fine tweezers (tick removal), antiseptic, emergency contact information.[/expand]
